Oh Baby! Week 13

Pregnancy Highlights:
How Far Along: 13 weeks

Size of Baby: Baby-to-be is almost 3 inches long (about the size of a pea pod) and weighs nearly an ounce.

Total Weight Gain: 2 lbs

Maternity Clothes: Not yet.

Gender:

Movement: None yet

Sleep: Sleeping pretty good and am entertained nightly by vivid, crazy dreams.

Food Cravings: Not much. Nausea was pretty bad this week. Strawberries, crackers, and cottage cheese were staples.

What I Miss: Food tasting normal.

Symptoms: Nausea, acne, sciatica - basically I'm just a peach to live with these days. Adam and I have a running joke, either we "marriage" each other or "love" each other. I'm pretty sure he just "marriages" me right now.

Memorable Moments: Loved taking the kids to a doctor appointment yesterday where we got to hear the heart beat. They are so excited and love being part of everything. My friend Jaimie had her son Trevor last Thursday (so I guess technically this should have gone in last weeks post). I'm excited to get the cliff notes from her on handling three. ;)  A midday nap with Declan on the couch - can't beat 4 year old snuggles!  And...the arrival of Mimi yesterday afternoon!!

What I Am Looking Forward To: Saying good bye to the first trimester! It kind of kicked my ass this time. The NT ultrasound on Monday - we are bringing Mimi along with us! And a kid-free lunch with girl friends next week to celebrate Trevor.

lately

In between bouts of medication and doctor appointments, we've been up to our usual fun. Enjoying the beautiful weather at beaches and parks, making the most of our rain-less winter.

Last week we met up with Gracie, Alex, Kylie, and Micah at Califia for some fun in the sun. Declan, Lex, and I arrived a little early. As we were walking up to the beach, we noticed a big crowd. They were looking at a pod of dolphins, accompanied by a whale - maybe two. The whales were splashing their fins and you could see their spray. Within seconds of spotting the whales more dolphins appeared, this time surfing the waves...and then they jumped over the waves! It was the most spectacular sight I've ever seen at a California beach. It all happened so fast, I barely had time to pull out my camera. My settings were totally wrong - so the only picture I snapped was this one of the dolphins surfing the waves. Wonder what that surfer was thinking.
If I had taken better pictures, this day would have deserved it's very own post. It really was so cool. But, just like that is was over. And our day went on as usual.
Beach Buds
They loved digging holes to sit in and wait for the water to come up and splash them.

A beach day wouldn't be complete without the whole group of them working together on a sand castle.

Red shirt friends ;)

We were so happy to get together with Declan's friend George from preschool last year. He lives on base and invited us to go bowling and then to his house for pizza. Such a fun morning! It was Delcan and Lexi's first time driving on base. Declan was quite taken by it, and kept saying "this is the most awesome place ever"!

They had the whole place to themselves. Love the bowling shoes they're sporting :)
They turned on the black lights for the kids - let the games begin!

Lexi and George playing Curious George games on his computer while we waited for pizza.

We met up with Quinn, Ryan, Lily, and Ella at a new park in Carlsbad called Alga Norte for some catch up  and play time with our cousins.

Cousin love

Cool swings! Somehow Lily and Declan talked Quinn into pushing them

 Lunch break!

Saturday morning we left the house early and headed to this little waffle cart called Boxd that had been on my list to try for awhile. The kids thought it was great, especially because it had a view of the passing trains. And, because they got to spend some fun time with their Dad!

 Train love
 Daddy love
Waffle love. This little guy is hooked!
After a delicious breakfast we walked a block to listen to the Boo Hoo Crew play some live music.
She insisted on bringing her own camera. It's a shoot off!
Big brother was so into it. Lexi took awhile to warm up.

Declan was sick of waiting for Lexi to join the fun, so he grabbed his sister's hand and insisted she get out there and dance!
That was all she needed, a little guidance from her brother!

 All props

Such a great Saturday morning!

We met Amelia and Taj, and their cousin Patrick for a play date at Moonlight. Declan and Amelia don't see one another very often, but when they do it takes no time to get into their groove. The two are like peas and carrots.
 Lexi loves Amelia

 Beach time
Proud that he wrote his name in the sand.
And now we are house bound, recovering from the flu. Hopefully we'll be out and about again soon!

couchies

It wouldn't be January if we weren't making frequent trips to the doctor. Good thing the office is less than a mile away. Thankfully cold and flu is hitting us later this year, and at least gave us a sick-free holiday season. Last week we were at the doctor getting Lexi meds for pneumonia, and tomorrow we have an appointment for this little guy, who has been fighting a high fever all day today. Ugh. I wish amoxicillin was an over-the-counter drug. It would make my life so much easier and cheaper. Poor little sickies.

2/52 {twinkle toes}

Ever since we stopped dance class at the end of August, she asked to go again at least a couple of times a week. For four months! Apparently she really liked it! One day in December I asked her who her favorite princess was and she replied "Ms. Abby". That was her dance teacher. What a memory the girl has got on her. So once we got through the holidays, we signed her up for dance again. The only problem with it is that it is Sundays mornings, the same time we go to church. So for four weeks we did the boy/girl split. Well, even though she wanted to go to dance class with her whole being, seeing Daddy and Declan leave without her sent her into a fit of tears. Poor thing. She loves the boys so much. The good news is I think we found a new dance studio with better times...and she still gets to be with Ms Abby too! Because quite frankly, Sunday mornings were a bit of a challenge. She doesn't have to choose between her two loves anymore. Such a Daddy's girl, this one.

Oh Baby! Week 12

and so begins this belly business...

Pregnancy Highlights:
How Far Along: 12 weeks

Size of Baby: Baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Total Weight Gain: 1 lb

Maternity Clothes: Not yet.

Gender: It took a little convincing Adam, but we've decided not to find out this time!

Movement: None yet

Sleep: Like a baby ;)

Food Cravings: This hot, dry weather has me feeling parched and dehydrated so I've been gravitating toward a lot of fruit. Also because I constantly have a sour taste in my mouth I like foods with a lot of taste to overcome it - pickles, pineapple, salsa. Everything else just tastes weird.

What I Miss: Feeling like myself and patience.

Symptoms: Nausea (luckily this has subsided to mainly late afternoon/evenings) and occasional sciatic nerve pain.

Memorable Moments: Lexi and I were at the pharmacy picking up some medicine for her and my pre-natal vitamins. When I told her what each bottle was, she got really excited and said she couldn't wait to take the baby out so she could see it and give it the medicine. These kids are cracking me up with their rationalization regarding the baby.

What I Am Looking Forward To: A doctor's appointment next week and finishing up the first trimester.

Big Brother, Big Sister

Considering that this is my twelfth week of pregnancy and I haven't really documented any of it, I thought I should back up a bit. Because over the last couple of months there have been some wonderful, memorable moments that deserve some attention.

First, it should be noted that we first found out we were expecting on Tuesday December 3rd. The timing of this was spectacular. With all of the holiday gatherings, we pretty much got to tell most of our friends and family the good news face-to-face. This is the first time we've been able to do this - usually it involves phone calls. In fact, my mom was actually visiting when we confirmed our suspicions of the baby! And I think we just about knocked off the socks of both my Dad and Carie and Adams parents when we told them. There were a lot of joyous tears, hugs, and congratulations. Like I said, it was wonderful sharing the news in person.

On the other hand the nausea hit me hard the week of Christmas and New Years, which definitely made the holidays a little rough for me this year. Every week since New Years has been a little better and I'm hoping this symptom will completely vanish soon. I never experienced it with Declan, and it didn't really hit me with Lexi until weeks 11- 18. Funny how different the symptoms of each pregnancy have been for me.

But, what I really want to concentrate on in this post are Declan and Lexi. A few days after we found out we were pregnant, we were decorating our Christmas tree. At this point Declan was quite obsessed with babies, probably due to the time he was spending with his cousin Ryan. We hadn't told the kids about the baby yet, so I almost fell over when Declan said "I want a baby for Christmas." Truly, I almost started crying right then and there. He continued to ask for a baby for Christmas over the next couple of weeks until finally we told the kids we were going to have one over dinner on December 18th. They were both excited when we told them the news. Declan's first question was, "are we going to have the baby Jesus for Christmas?" He confused our baby with the baby Jesus a few more times during the month of December. Every time I got a good chuckle out of it.I can only imagine what his preschool teachers were thinking, as there is not a doubt in my mind he was talking about it at school.

Declan has been full of questions and comments ever since he heard he was going to be a big brother again. The questions come at the most random times. One day he asked me how I was going to change the baby's diapers while it was in my belly. Another time he bursts out with this comment while we were driving, "but mom I didn't see Daddy give you the seed." Ha, ha, ha. The kid cracks me up. The most consistent questions are: how big is the baby, how many days until I get to see the baby, and is it a boy or a girl. He's hoping for a boy.

Lexi has shown just as much excitement as Declan, although she doesn't ponder the details as much as her big brother. Truth be told, I'm a little worried about how she'll react once the baby arrives. She copies everything Declan says so I know a lot of her excitement is drawn from Declan's. Although she does show her own kind of excitement when she asks for the baby to sleep in her room, or when she says she can't wait to hold the baby. She is pulling for a sister. Only time will tell.

It was fun taking the kids to the first ultrasound. They truly are adding an element of fun to this pregnancy that I didn't experience with the others. There are not words to describe what it is like having them to share it with. They loved seeing the baby on the screen, but the looks on their faces when the technician turned the sound on and they heard the heart beat was absolutely priceless. Lexi actually put her hand to her mouth in surprise. I didn't get a picture of this because I had to lay still while the sound was on, but here are their faces while watching the baby on the screen.

A picture of what they saw. I'm sure they were wondering what they were looking at, as it is hard to decipher much at that first ultrasound.

At this ultrasound, we also found out our official due date is August 8th. I for one, am ecstatic to have a summer baby. And we cleared that September 1st school cut off with time to spare!

That about wraps it up. One thing is for sure, this little baby has two very excited siblings (and parents) anxiously waiting to say hello. It will probably be overwhelmed by the little hands wanting to hold it and give it love.
Cheers to the chaos of three!
