Happy Halloween

A witch and Buzz Lightyear
Probably both thinking how ridiculous the other one looks
Dec's costume has some awesome light-up wings that I cannot get him to put on. :( He runs around the house holding them, but won't wear them. He's not much of a costume kid - quite frankly the minute we dressed him in it at the pumpkin patch, he was trying to get it "OFF" (as he kept saying):
Even smiling he is trying to take the costume off! I'm hoping for at least one picture with the wings tonight.
Lexi, on the other hand, is only 6 months so can't really fight me yet :) It's the easiest year to snap Halloween pictures! My adorable witch:
Happy Haunting!

The Pumpkin Party

Last Sunday we hosted our second annual Pumpkin Party! It was so much fun! Thanks to inspiration from pinterest, I went a little crazy with the dessert table this year:
I made pumpkin cake pops for the first time. I thought these would be super time consuming and difficult, but they were actually pretty easy! The stems are tic-tacs! :)
These witch hats were ridiculously easy - 3 ingredients, and no baking!
The candy corn sugar cookies were fun to make. I like them because they are bite size - perfect for little people!
This halloween bark was a hit. I couldn't eat any because I am allergic to peanut butter and this is chalk full of it. But, again it was super easy to make!
And of course we had to include cupcakes in the treat mix!
This is the boring food table, but I love the pumpkin vase (again an idea from pinterest).

Here is a picture of the outside. I wanted to make poms, but was running out of time and thought they were too pricey on ETSY, so I called my mom and asked her to look into making them. Of course she jumped on it for me! But she called and said the reason they're so pricey is because the massive amount of tissue paper you need to make them. Her solution? Using plastic table clothes instead of tissue paper! Brilliant!! I LOVE my crafty mom! In fact she is staying with us right now and we have been attacking my list of Christmas crafts and blowing through them! The house, needless to say is in disarray. But, I digress. The backyard, complete with poms and Adam's pumpkin cut-out from last year:
And now some highlights of the adorable little pumpkins enjoying the pumpkin party!
(In case you hadn't noticed, I have a huge polka-dot obsession - HUGE)
Lily, Max, and Cassidy playing with the bean bag toss.
The kiddos painting their pumpkins. It was great having some of the grandma's there too!
Here are the three youngest attendees - Ella, Quinn, and Kylie. To be honest Lexi should be included in this group. I am embarrassed to admit I didn't snap any pics of my pumpkin princess that day. She fell asleep 15 minutes into the party and didn't wake up for four hours. :( The dress that Kylie is wearing used to be Lexi's. It brought on feelings of nostalgia to see that sweet little dress. Kylie looks so cute in it! I can't believe Lexi was ever that small.
Pumpkin party-ers!
Gracie, Cassidy, Quin, Micah, Alex, and Isla
Grayson (all the way from Palo Alto!), Lily, Luke (you can't see from the picture, but he is trying out Dec's skateboard), Ellie and Lola, Heather, Max, and Chase, and Declan.
I'd say the party was a success, as evidenced by the fact that I couldn't get very many of the kiddos to look up for a picture! They were all so engrossed in their painting! We can't wait to do it again next year!
Happy Halloween!!

All About Alex - Video

Sweet Lexi, we just posted your 6 month poem and slide show a few days ago (which I can't sop watching - I just can't get over how much you've grown!), but 6 months is such a big milestone, I want to go into more detail about what's happening with you these days!

First off, we visited Dr. Soppe on your 6 month birthday. All is well with you of course - you are a healthy happy little baby, hitting all the milestones you should be at this point. :) It had been 2 1/2 months since our last visit, so I was more than a little curious (and surprised) about your stats:
Weight: 16.12 pounds (50th percentile)
Height: 27 1/2 inches (96th percentile)
Head circumference: 16 1/2 inches (25th percentile)
Quite honestly I thought you weighted more like 17 1/2 pounds and was blown away when they said 16.12 - yeah! I look at it as more baby time with you. :) And your height!! You are one tall drink of water!
We recently took your bath sponge out of the bath...and you're just loving the freedom. It allows you to splash until your little heart is content. Bath time fun has reached a whole new level:
Another change is your view from the stroller - you are facing out instead of in. I think your big bro is most excited about this!
We are having so much fun with food! This week we introduced the sweet potato - by the look on your face, I'd say it was a success!
Since you are sitting now, we brought out the blocks...I'm pretty sure they are your new favorite toy! The pictures below show how curious and grabby you are these days. You grab everything, and your reach is pretty darn good. I really have to be aware of what is near you and what I am holding. Even if I think something is out of reach, you seem to find a way to get it!
Mirror, mirror on the wall, whose the fairest of them all? Another new, fun activity - playing peek-a-boo in the mirror!

Lexi, I just love getting to know your adorable personality more and more each day! You make me so happy love!

Happy Highlights - Video

We've been oh so very busy these days! Quite honestly I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Even Adam commented on my disheveledness when I had to drive home pizza-less from picking up pizza due to the fact that I left my wallet in my diaper bag and forgot to transfer it to my purse before heading out. Bummer.
One of the many pleasures of being a mom to two is that you are 100% surviving in the moment. Your time is no longer yours - it is theirs. Sometimes I try to squeeze in a project or two while they are awake and inevitably end up paying for it in the end.Today instead of concentrating on exerting some of Declan's endless energy, I tried to get a few things done around the house. Ha! What a joke. Case in point: This afternoon I was painting our large pumpkin cut-out getting ready for our pumpkin party this weekend. I thought it would be a good activity for the two of us to do. But, Declan lost interest kind of early in the game. After about 5 minutes I noticed that it was quiet...too quiet. I turned around to find that Declan painted the top of Lexi's head orange and then covered it with dirt! This picture doesn't do the orange stripe on her head justice...because it is covered in dirt. I ditched my project and went to plan B - bath time!
The benefit to being a full time mom is that if you are feeling disheveled - it's cool. Your kids don't care if you had to skip the shower that day or decided that pizza sounded better than cooking. We're all just rolling with the punches!
We've been up to some fun stuff lately! Taking full advantage of the Halloween season, we visited two pumpkin patches in the last week. Last Thursday cousin Zack hung out with us. We met Alex, Gracie, Micah, Kinley, and Kasen at Tanaka Farms for some fun.
Here are all of the kiddos (minus Lexi who was sleeping in the Ergo) waiting for the tractor ride to begin:
Did I mention that the day was sweltering hot? It didn't stop the kiddos from running non-stop!
Off to find pumpkins!
A few more highlights -
Our second pumpkin patch play date was at Bates with our new friends Jen and Logan.
A blurry picture, but I just love their expressions.
I can't get enough of Lexi in this orange tutu!
Declan discovered the pumpkin delivery truck and the boys spent at least a half hour playing around on it...until the driver turned it on and scared them right off of it!
We had the Rowes and the Klocks over for dinner on Saturday night. It was so much fun watching the little ones run around and hanging out with our friends.
Here is a little peek into our evening. If you close your eyes, I bet you can't tell whose scream belongs to whom...

On Sunday we headed up to Great Park in Orange to help Alex celebrate his third birthday! It was a fun afternoon and a great park! Declan's favorite part was climbing all over the rocks.
Happy Birthday Alex!!
And, we headed to Legoland again with the McHenry girls. It is so much fun now that Declan is going on the rides. We had a great day!
At one point we were waiting for Kady and Samantha while they took their turn on a ride. Declan wandered over to this ride that takes you up in the air and bounces you. I couldn't go on it with him because I had Lexi, so he went on it alone!! I was proud of him!

And to end, here are a few cute pictures of Declan and Lexi playing on the couch. We moved the furniture to clean the blinds...which they just thought was great! It's the small moments that make the best memories.
