Favorite Moment: Near the beginning of the month we were in your room reading books, getting ready for bed. The window was open and it was almost completely dark out. All of a sudden you walked over to the screen pointed outside and started jibber-jabbering away. Complete with hand gestures and everything. We turned the light in your room out and this just revved up your "talking" even more. If a car drove by you pointed and started talking; if an airplane flew overhead you started laughing and talking. This went on for a good ten minutes at least - you were so excited to tell us about everything going on outside. It was such a peaceful moment with the night air breeze, and listening to your sweet, excited voice! This was also a turning point in your talking - from that moment on, your attempts to communicate with us became more frequent and lively!
Things You Love:
Jumping on our bed - we say "1, 2, 3!" And you raise your arms up and fall dramatically on the bed
Talking in kind of a growling sound - it is so funny. You really get a kick out of it when Daddy or I respond in the same voice.
You've discovered your ability to scream and bust out this new talent when things aren't going your way...lovely!
Along with identifying shapes, you can now identify the letters O,X,H,S,B,E, and sometimes A,C, & D.
When you are finished with your sippy cup or food, you're much better at handing it to me instead of throwing it on the ground. This is not a consistent occurrence, but definitely more frequent.
I can now officially drop you off at the babysitter at the gym without you crying! Not a peep - just a wave good bye!
You've developed a shyness around adults you don't see on a regular basis
Sometimes you make the kiss sound when giving kisses
You now blow into the bubble wand instead of just holding it to your mouth ;)
You are getting better at helping me clean up your toys when I start to sing the clean-up song
Talking - my God! You don't stop that jibber-jabber and we love it! You have so much to say! It seems like everyday you are talking more and more. I have to admit, we still can't understand most of it (so I use the word "talking" loosely). But we've added a few new decipherable words/phrases this month: "all-done", "airplane", and "I-me" for Mimi ;)
Declan John, every month my love for you grows; as does my amazement. I feel so lucky to be the one you call Mama. Happy 19 months!
Yesterday we braved the weather and went to Legoland with Katie and Amelia. Luckily it didn't rain on us! Amelia was so cute - she was very motherly to Dec. Hugging and kissing him. If I said "Come on Dec", she would run over and try to carry him to me. Of course he shooed her away when this happened. Ha, ha! So fun to watch the interaction of little ones.
Amelia hugging a reluctant Dec
Minitown is always mesmerizing!
Katie gave me a great tip during our Legoland adventures - on Fridays the Carlsbad YMCA has open gym for an hour. Since I had to make a quick trip to Costco today anyway, I thought we'd give it a try. Wow, am I glad I did! Dec was SO EXCITED!
The kiddo did not stop laughing the entire hour! I've never seen him exert so much energy in such a short amount of time.
He thinks he's jumping in the picture below. He watched the other kids jump on the trampoline and so he squats and raises his arms up and thinks he's jumping too! It is so funny!
Did I mention he took a 3 hour nap today?? This activity will definitely be happening on future Fridays!!
Despite the ominous, looming clouds this afternoon, Adam and I decided to take Dec on a late afternoon outing. We needed some fresh air after being couped-up yesterday. Lavender Hill Pumpkin Farm in Fallbrook has been on my list to check out this month and the end of the month is closing in on us fast!
This charming little farm/school (for 8 kids!) was so darn adorable! The owners Libby and Mike were there to meet, greet, and tell you about their prize pumpkins! Definitely one of my favorite pumpkin outings yet!
What's this mean mug?
Dec was all about the wheel barrow rides and tried to get back in whenever we took him out!
So unique! Lavender Hill has a pumpkin museum - these pumpkins are not for sale. They have been morphed over the years and the couple uses their seeds to grow the unusual pumpkins for the following year. Did I mention the pumpkins have names?? (That is Libby in the background).
Size of Baby: Baby H is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce. Total Weight Gain: 2 lbs
Maternity Clothes: Not yet.
Gender: Can't wait to find out! Some people say I'm having a girl because I am more sick this time and I wasn't with Declan. But, I have a couple of friends with 2 boys who were fine during one pregnancy and sick during the other, so I don't really think it's a predictor. The reason I am leaning more toward girl is because I am thinking about girl names more, and when I was pregnant with Declan, I thought about boy names. Movement: Not yet! Sleep: Lately I'm sleeping like a baby at night!
Food Cravings: None.
What I Miss: Nothing new this week.
Symptoms: Same old, same old - although I think I am slowly starting to feel better. Here's hoping!
Best Moment This Week: Another friend of mine delivered her baby boy this week! Also, the fact that I have one remaining week of my first trimester!! Yeah!
What I Am Looking Forward To: Seeing my Grandmother this weekend who will visit from Minnesota. She gave birth to 11 healthy babies!Raising Eleven!! In my opinion, she is one of the best people to ask for advice! And, quite honestly I am all about good advice ;)
On Wednesday night we went to Alex's second birthday party at Partyapolis. This place was perfect for Declan (who has recently taken to jumping on our bed). Once he realized the jumpy's were like a giant bed, there was no stopping this guy!
The group shot - Gracie Jo is holding Dec and Alex is in the back in the orange shirt.
On Thursday we met up with the McHenry girls, Kady & Samantha for a a very fun play date at the Botanical Gardens.
A pause in play to look up at an airplane ;)
And, later that day Declan woke up from his nap to find 2 of his favorite people waiting for him! Zack and Emma came over for a little sleepover! While Dec was still napping, Zack & Emma made haunted ginger bread houses -
The rest of the day was filled with crazy fun play! Including Dec's favorite past time, some bed jumping!
The next day we made a quick stop at Costco to purchase How to Train Your Dragon and then back to the Botanical Gardens!
Off to the Botanical Gardens, where we saw frogs, a waterfall, and played, played, played! Zack also lost his tooth here!
Dec & Emma loved coloring on these boards - it kept them entertained for quite awhile.
What a fun day! I know Dec was disappointed when he woke from his nap to a house without cousins :(
On Saturday the Klocks came over for a visit! Dec and Cassidy were so darn cute playing together. I could defintely tell Dec was showing off for his lady friend!
Cassidy found her way under the kitchen chair...
Dec was enthralled with this idea and decided to try it out himself!
When it was time to say good bye, Dec blew Cassidy kisses. Cassidy on the other hand, went in for the real thing - which I think, pleased Dec, but took him back a little too ;)
Aaahhh! These two little cuties!
What a fun week! I will be spending today relaxing ;)
Last weekend Declan and I had a few moms and tots over for a little pumpkin party to celebrate the Halloween season!
My handy hubby cut out this pumpkin for a bean bag toss and Declan and I painted it. I wish I had taken a picture of this, because Declan painting this pumpkin was quite comical. He kept standing where we painted and slipping on the wet paint. He looked like he was attempting to ice skate on the pumpkin!
My mom made a bunch of Halloween bean bags for the little ones to toss. Aren't they adorable? I love that my mom is handy with the sewing machine because I definitely am not!
Declan loves his pumpkin! Ellie & Lola loved it too - here they are at the bean bag toss!
We also had a minitaure pumpkin patch - this is where the kiddos chose a pumpkin to paint!
Below are a few pictures of our little pumpkins painting their pumpkins! As you can see, they all took this part of the party very seriously!
Chase, Cassidy, and Max with Michelle
Declan, Amelia, and Micah
Isla and Lola with Melissa
The finished master pieces!
Onto the sweet treats - as most people know, my favorite part! I bought the toppers from my favorite Etsy lady and purcahsed a nifty frosting squirter (for lack of a better description) at Michaels to create these yummy treats!
Poor Dec was tantalized watching me make these! He wasted no time shoving the whole thing in his mouth when he finally got his hands on one! That's my son!
Looks like some of the other kiddos enjoyed the sweetness too!
And the group shot - seemingly more difficult to accomplish the older the kids become! We attempted this llate in the day, so unfortunately not all the kiddos are in the attempted group shot pictures. Declan was not happy about a group picture. Such drama in that cry. Amelia, Micah's back, Isla, Chase, and Declan. Notice the shock on Chases's face...
Chase and Max trying to tell Dec it's going to be okay...
Micah, Isla, Chase, Dec, Cassidy, and Max in the back
And our youngest pumpkin painter of the day...Mr Luke!
We had so much fun, we can't wait to do it again next year!
