A Peek At Our Week

After a somewhat rough month (I started school again and picked up some more work - when it rains it pours!) I am finally beginning to feel caught up. I have to admit, I'm a little relieved January is almost over - things were just a bit crazy!
Even so, we always manage to weave some fun into the chaos! The highlight this week was our new toy - the tunnel (pictured above). Dec loves to crawl in and out of it, bring his train inside, and chase balls through it.

On Tuesday we met Katie and Amelia at the Carlsbad Library for Smart Babies. Amelia just broke her first tooth and started walking! Go Amelia!
On Thursday morning I took Dec down to the beach with the intention of going for a run, but ended up just playing on the beach with him instead. The waves were huge, and the morning was gorgeous, so we decided to just go with it.
And today we helped Miss Kady celebrate her first birthday! We love going to birthday parties!

Yeah! They had a bounce house! We love these!
Dec was quite enthralled with the mesh siding...
Hangin' in the sandbox with the ladies!

His Window

Declan loves looking out his bedroom window. He likes looking for birds, watching the neighborhood kids play, and waving to cars as they pass by. He also loves sticking the "stick-ees" (the hearts) on the window and taking them off. Tuesday mornings are especially fun when the garbage men come - lot's of noise and movement to entertain the kidlet!

The picture below shows Dec really hamming it up at the window. We can thank Mimi for the Richard Simmon-y head band that he is wearing:)

10 Months

10 months! Oh me, oh my -
You're in the double digits now - time certainly does fly!

It seems each month goes faster than the previous.
You're keeping us on our toes as you grow more mischievous.

A month filled with many special memories, but my fave
Was the Saturday night you
started to wave!

Now you wave to cars passing by and shoppers from the grocery cart,
But when you wave bye to dad in the morning, it melts my heart!

My gregarious son, with such enthusiastic hellos and good byes,
You make friends everywhere we go without having to try!

A visit to the doc revealed a height over 29 inches & a weight of 20 pounds.
This increased strength has advanced your motor skills by leaps and bounds!

Little monkey, you climb the stairs both up and down,
If we take you away, it is one of the few times you give us a frown.

I love when you pull up on our legs and give them a hug.
This new trick really gives my heart strings a tug.

Watching Nemo, you recently started to clap.
Your gleeful expression gave us a good knee slap!

As you walk your push toy I realize your observant play is long gone;
Actively engaged now, you stack blocks and even turn your train on!

Paying close attention you're beginning to immitate what we do,
Sorting laundry, opening the garage, and giving us five too!

Your latest sound is adorable and unique.
Some describe it as zurburting or motor-boating, I just call it sweet!

You've developed some new favorite hang outs including gymboree class.
Also the book store and your window as you look for birds through the glass.

Becoming quite the little person, there's so much you can do-
I love writing your monthly poems-all we have left now is two!

We're moving on to month number eleven.
Looking forward to more time with you is absolute heaven!

You're A Good Man Charlie Brown

Yesterday Jaimie and I took the boys to see the play You're A Good Man Charlie Brown at the Children's Theater in Balboa Park. The theater is small and we had seats close to the front. Jaimie and I didn't know if the boys would be able to hang or not, but they did! Well kind of - Micah held onto the end. Dec and I had to leave about 20 minutes early. But, prior to that we had a wonderful time. For the majority of play Dec was mesmerized by the singing and costumes. We had so much fun! Dec and Micah are the best of buds. A few minutes into the play Dec leaned over and gave Micah a hug! It was so cute.
Prior to the play, we had a little bit of time, so we took advantage of the beautiful weather and walked around Balboa Park.

Today we got to see Micah and Jaimie again at Gymboree class- yeah! Next week we are dragging the dad's to class;) I know Adam is counting the minutes!
After class Dec was blowing zurburts on the window (a favorite pass time as of late), and Micah touched Dec's hair. It's so cute - whenever Micah sees Dec, he gives him a pat on the head!

Rainy Day Play

What a cozy, rainy week! Our usual outdoor activities were put on hold, as we searched for creative, indoor fun!

On Wednesday we went to the Museum of Music Making with our mom's group. Ordinarily a museum is not a particularly good place to take a 9 (almost 10) month old. But this museum provides a room where children can play with instruments! Very cool.
On Thursday Adam, Dec, and I went to one of Dec's favorite hang outs - the book store!

And tonight we went with cousin Lily, aunt Kristin, and uncle Mike to Ruby's - mmm! Lily shared some of her blueberries - I think this maybe Dec's new favorite food. After dinner a quick trip to the toy store!

We can have fun, even without our California sun!

Reminiscent - Video

Tuesday night was Mimi's last night of her visit. Adam was at training, so after we put Dec to bed she and I sat at the computer and watched old videos of Dec. Yes, we were just a couple of goons ooing and ahhhing over Declan. Here is a video of him when he was just one week old! Much different than the current videos I am posting...

Today seems an appropriate day to post this, as my very good friend Sarah gave birth to her second son this morning. Congratulations to the Krekow family on the addition of Eli Marshall!

Smitten- Videos

Gymboree class was especially fun today because it became apparent that little Declan has developed his first crush! He loves his Gymboree teacher, Miss Brianna! Every time she sings or speaks, he looks mesmerized. I kid you not! Check out the "air roller" video below. Declan can't take his eyes off Miss Briana...

Another reason class was fun today - we met a new friend in a serendipitous way! Last week while I was racking up practicum hours I ran into my friend Jillian from grad school. After catching up for a few minutes, we figured out that her sister Molly who had a baby boy on April 2 (one week younger than Declan) just signed up for Gymboree classes at the same location we are taking them! So through the handy work of Jillian, Molly and Mateo are now in the same class as us! We are so excited!

Molly, Mateo, me, Dec, Jaimie, and Micah

The video below shows a darling moment. Declan is rolling the balls to Mateo and waving as they roll down the ramp. Over the past few weeks he has been honing his motor skills - stacking blocks, placing objects in and out of containers, etc. The ball rolling was fun because I showed him how and he immediately mimicked me. As a new mom, it is just thrilling!

And, just a few fun photos! Mimi has been so diligent videoing and taking pictures this week, but we haven't taken enough of her with Dec. This is a cute one!

My little sweetie;) Mimi "punked" his hair for class. So cute!

Mimi's Play Dates-Videos

Like mother, like daughter! Although I haven't been with Declan this past week, I don't think he has noticed. Mimi has done a fabulous job of keeping up our usual routine of play-dates and searching for fun. He's just with his Mimi instead of his Mama!

On Wednesday Mimi and Dec met up with Mimi's long time friend Judy (my God-mother) who lives in Orange County. Judy brought her grand-daughter Ava, who is turning one next week. Prior to meeting for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, Dec and Mimi passed the time by playing in the Mission Viejo mall playground. Always a good time! Below are a few videos from the mall.

I wish we had a toy like this at our house!

And below are Dec & Ava enjoying a yummy lunch at The Cheeseckae Factory. Look how sweet little Ava is in her brown and pink - I love it! Don't smile too big kids!
Mmm! Dec loves restaurant bread!
And on Thursday Mimi and Dec met up with Micah and his grandma Kathy at Gymboree for open gym. Luckily, Jaimie and I were both able to make it for the last half hour after work/practicum. I was greeted by Dec with 3 big kisses! I just love this kid! The six of us had a great time. I mean who wouldn't at Gymboree?!
*A photo of the six of us is coming soon*

Dec and Micah in the row boat -

Dec's favorite toy at Gymboree. Look at him wave - he started last Saturday, and he can't stop! He loves waving. If he's really excited, he'll give the double wave with both hands.

Thanks for giving Dec an awesome week Mimi! And thanks for documenting everything so I didn't feel out of the loop!

Books, Books, Books!

I think Mimi died and went to heaven. She is getting in lots of Declan time this week! I am back in school, working on building up practicum hours. Fortunately for me, she is here to babysit while I squeeze in as many as I can in a week. I'm not sure who is having more fun, Declan or Mimi! Today she took him to story time at Barnes & Noble and then to the beach where he sat on the boardwalk and waved to everyone. The kidlet loves to wave!

Here he is playing with books. Pointing with his index finger is one of his fun new habits.

And here he is crawling down a step for the first time. He recently mastered climbing up our stair case. I can see from this video we are going to have to teach him feet first quickly!

Stay tuned to see what Mimi has in store for tomorrow!

What An Awesome Day!

Today started off great and just kept getting better! We began our day by booking a Club Med vacation in the Dominican Republic for early June! Our first official family vacation. Time to get Declan a passport! I am counting the days!!
Then, Mimi and I met Jaimie, Micah, Stacie, Ellie, and Lola at Gymboree class. Oh my goodness! I saw a side to Declan I have never seen before. I call it the "don't-touch me, don't-hold-me, I-have-stuff-to-do" side of him. The minute I put him on the ground he was off exploring and making friends. Mom definitely did not exist! It was so cute! Mimi bought us a whole month of Gymboree classes - we are so excited!

Me, Declan, Jaimie, Micah, Lola, Stacie, and Ellie
Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere!

And, just when we thought the day couldn't get any better, it did! Michelle and Cassidy stopped by for a visit!

Cassidy and Dec playing with one of Dec's new Christmas presents. Cassidy was so cute, she kept shaking her booty whenever the music came on! The girls got rhythm!

The Wave

Tonight Declan started waving, and did not stop! Adam and I have suspected a wave here and there over the past few weeks, but haven't been 100% sure that's what was actually happening. Now we know, the kidlet is waving!
Mimi is in town and took him outside in the early evening hours to watch the neighborhood kids play (something he loves to do). All of a sudden he started waving at cars going by. Each time a car drove by, he started waving vigorously - first with both hands, and eventually dropped off to one. He was so excited! The neighbors responded well - a few cars even stopped, rolled down their windows and waved back at him! What an unexpected, wonderful evening!

The double handed wave-

Our happy little man!

What's Up Doc?

Today we went to the doctor for Dec's 9 month check-up. It's been awhile since we've been to the doctor, so naturally I was excited! Everything went well. Dec weighted in at 20 lbs, 4oz (50th percentile) and measured just over 29 inches in length (75th percentile). He had 3 shots and barely shed a tear - such a tough guy already!

Here he is being measured by the nurse (and smiling as always!) -
I thought his shots might make for a tough day, but the little guy did great. He took a long nap and was ready to party when he woke up! And I mean this literally - tonight we celebrated cousin Emma's 3rd birthday at Fillippi's.

Here are the cousins in a typical chaotic cousin moment-

California Girls

Taking advantage of the gorgeous 70 degree California weather, on Wednesday morning we met Katie & Amelia at Carlsbad beach for a walk. After we stopped at a coffee shop for a bagel and let the babies and puppy stretch their legs. Declan was excited to see little Amelia and meet her puppy Tess. Dec was all about Tess - the first time I've seen him immediately take to a dog - usually he needs to warm up a bit. Below are the little peeps with Tess in the background.
And on Thursday we saw our girls Melissa and Isla. Another walk in the California sun. Isla slept while Dec kept watch...
Now it's Declan's turn to sleep!
Declan is lucky to have so many cute girlfriends :)

Making Waves - Video

Yes, we love these bath videos! Not long ago I posted a blog showing Declan kicking in the bath. Last night he discovered splashing with his hands. Check it out -

Happy New Year, Baby! - Video

We spent New Year's Eve 2009 with our good friends Jaimie, Josh, Casey, and CJ. It was a fun night - lots of laughs and goofiness. Declan and Micah also had a great time. The boys are so cute together and definitely feed off one another. They too were into the silliness of the evening...

"Um, Micah, I hate to tell you this, but you have a ridiculous little hat on your head."
"What? I have one on my head too?"
"Get this hat off me NOW!"
The boys were much happier with the New Year's Eve shakers and NO HATS!
All of the boys
And, the girls -
And, on a completely different subject - lately I have been teaching Dec to feed himself. I know - crazy ambition, but I figured why not give it a try? Check out little Palooka in a video from this morning...
