Food Is Fantastic-Video

I have been meaning to post this video for about 2 weeks now! Declan loves eating solid foods. So far he hasn't denied anything we have given him, although avocados took a little bit of work. Our pediatrician and a few friends recommended the book Super Baby Food for the transition to solid foods. What a find! It tells you how to make baby food - an idea I balked at at first, but after reading the book I discovered it is much easier and quicker than I thought. This book is a must have for the moms out there - even if you don't want to make baby food, it is a great resource, especially dictating when their stomachs are ready to digest certain foods.
Anyway, enough about the book and onto Dec. He is eating yams, squash, bananas, avocados, pears, carrots, papayas & this week we are starting greens! I think we'll begin that adventure with string beans.
The video below shows him eating yogurt for the first time. Prior to feeding him the yogurt he was Mr. cranky pants. Following his first bite of yogurt he was so happy, he started to laugh! It's moments like these that make motherhood wonderful!

And a video of him drinking from his sippy cup. As you can see from these videos, he really prefers feeding and drinking himself. I love it!

A Birthday At The Beach

Last weekend we headed North to Oxnard to celebrate Poppy's (big) birthday. It is always so fun and relaxing at DD & Poppy's. Uncle Jeff and aunt Em were there too. Two birthday weekends in a row - we've been a busy family!

Here we are at Poppy's birthday dinner. Notice who is at the head of the table!

Poppy's new guitar -he's playing his first riff! Just kidding, but we do expect something by Christmas!

DD experiencing the fun of feeding Declan;) More to come on Declan's eating habits later this week...

Playing with blocks -

They didn't stay arranged nicely for very long!

Lately, Dec likes eating people's hair. Em is being such a good sport!

Poppy & Dec. Dec is wearing his new hat that Emily brought him It says "Grandpa's little helper" - so cute!

7 Months

Little one, another month has flown by-
Filled with moments to make any parent sigh.

My favorite was when I heard "mama".
You need to say "dad" soon or there will be drama!*

So many new games you like to play-
Blocks, swinging, and ball are good any time of the day!

Your favorite spot is on dad's shoulders-
We're seeing your courage grow as you get older.

Unfortunately you were sick for the first time.
I wanted to take your illness and make it mine.

My growing boy, you love to eat!
Squash, pears, yams, but yogurt is your favorite treat!

So many new places and exciting adventures!
We visited pumpkin patches, the Harbor, and smiled for family pictures.

A month of memories, oh so sweet!
But the question remains my love,
where are those teeth?!

*Mama is not his first word because he doesn't use it in the correct context. He is just babbling. Also, I chose this picture because during the entire month he was chewing on his bottom lip, just like in the picture!

Yeah For Baby Yoga

Last Monday we went to baby yoga with our mom's group. What a blast! The first half hour is singing and movement for the babies. The last half hour is stretching for the mom's. Declan just loves it, mainly because of all the little people his size. He is becoming more cognizant of other babies - I just love to watch him ham it up around them.

Here he is making friends with Chloe. He is not crawling yet, but oh, is he trying. When he saw Chloe he put in his best effort to make it over to her. In the end, the moms helped unite the 2 little ones.

And to our left is another adorable little girl (I forgot her name though). Declan makes friends with everyone!

And here is our good friend Amelia, with our new friends Sena (holding Leif).

Later in the week we met up with aunt Kristin and cousin Lily to make hand & feet imprints at the park through Doodlebug Designs. We love cousin Lily - look at her waving at the camera! So cute;)

This Scene In The Bath Will Make You Laugh! - Video

Another bath video! It's quite possibly my favorite time of the day - except that it's near his bedtime. I always miss the little guy after he goes to sleep! Anyway, check this out -it's entertaining...

Hangin' At The Harbor

Mimi & Jim were in town last week to celebrate Mimi's big birthday! They were staying at the Oceanside Harbor, so we spent a lot of time playing there.

Declan loves to swing. When I go on my morning run, I always stop at a park about half way and we swing for awhile. It's our new routine. Here he is swinging at the beach.

A standing man!

In the Adirondack chair - he looks so miniature!

Jeff, Emily, Mom (Mimi), Jim, Adam, and me at Peohes' after seeing The Lion King (so far the best musical I have seen)! G-Mom & Grandpop (Adam's parents) were home watching Dec. He decided to skip his nap that day, so they got to spend a lot of time with Palooka!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Chatterblocks - Video

It is so cool observing how differently Declan plays with toys now that he is sitting. He loves objects small enough to hold which he inevitably bangs together. His actions seem so much more deliberate than they use to. The other day he played for over an hour with his blocks - below is a 30 second video of it. His facial expressions and chatter absolutely crack me up. While watching the video, see if you can decipher a word near the beginning!

Did you hear "mama"? It's music to my ears. He's been saying it for about a week now! Of course not in the right context, but hey, I'll take what I can get. It's actually ironic that he is saying mama - we've been working on dada, not mama for a few weeks (poor Adam). Every once in awhile I hear "ba" too. I'm sure "dada" isn't too far away!

Declan Hearts Isla

We had the pleasure of meeting Miss Isla Rowe tonight (pronounced I-la, like Island). What a beauty! Only 2 1/2 weeks, she is just gorgeous. There is nothing like the innocence of a sweet, newborn baby girl. Congrats Mel & Brian! What a beautiful family.
Melissa, Brian, and Adam grew up together making the introduction of Declan and Isla a special one. With the knowledge of how goofy and immature Brian and Adam have been in the past (sorry boys, but you know it's true!), it is something else to see them as grown up fathers. They have matured so much...

I mean just look at them with the little ones. So responsible. Wait is that beer I see? And is Brian making Isla kiss Dec? I rescind my prior comment about maturity. This is a photo of 4 kids, not 2! Some things never change.

But seriously, isn't Isla just gorgeous?

Zack Attack

Last Saturday, we spent the earlier part of the morning at cousin Zack's soccer game (we don't sleep in anymore). It was fun watching a bunch of six year old's play soccer. Zack was awesome! He's going to have to show Dec a thing or two in a few years! Go Fireballs!

Look at cousin Zack taking on 2 of the blue team (forgot the opponents name)

Zack was an awesome goalie - no one scored on him!

Zack's cheering section - do you like Dec's dinosaur hat? It was a chilly morning!

The cousins

Good Game!

Say "Cheese!" - Family Photos

Recently we had some family photos taken at the beach by the same photographer who took Declan's newborn photos. We just received the CD of the images last night - exciting!! I love every single one. How often does that happen? Below are some of my favorites.

On another note, I went into Dec's room this morning and he was giggling in his sleep! He does this occasionally. In fact, the first time we heard him laugh (at about 10 weeks) he was sleeping and actually giving us a full on belly laugh. How happy is this kid?!

And just Declan...

My favorite - this was right before he fell over ;)

Bring On The Swing - Video

Last Thursday was a little mundane (compared to our usual schedule). I was doing some work from home and felt the need to get out of the house for awhile. So I asked Dec - "what should we do?" We decided to go to the park and try out swinging!

Here's a little video of our adventure. Disclaimer: it was difficult to video, push the swing, and entertain Palooka all at the same time.

Back to Bates

Oh yes, I am indulging in the holidays this year! I know that Dec doesn't have a clue what Halloween is, or even that it is Halloween! But, I love the idea that soon we will be enjoying the magic through the eyes of a child.
So, we made our second trip to Bates Nut Farm! This time we went with Amy and Grayson. We are trying to squeeze in some play dates with the Eflands. An incredible opportunity is moving them North very soon. We are happy for them, but we will miss our good friends!

Here we are on a hay ride!
"Hey Grayson, look at the monster pumpkins!"

Amy & Grayson, stylin' in their shades - too cute!

Dec - rolling around, having a great time in the grass.
The kidlet melts my heart ;)

Having A Ball - Video

One of his new favorite games - playing ball! I'll never get tired of those flapping arms and sweet little laugh!

Huck Finn Doesn't Have Anything On Us!

On Monday we met Jaimie and Micah at the Encinitas Botanical Gardens. What a cool place - I've never been there. It is interesting how many fun places you discover in SD once you have an excuse (baby) to find them. Needless to say, the boys had a blast! And Jaimie is such an awesome mom, I always learn something new every time I see her. We are lucky she is ahead of us in the mom game.

There is a tree house type playground at the gardens. It looks like something straight out of a Mark Twain book!
In the cave

Me & Dec at the waterfall

The boys are catching up! It's been too long since they've seen one another:)

After, we met Miss Casey for lunch at Wahoos - Yum!

On a completely different subject, you may wonder what Dec does while I am busy blogging? He helps me of course! Here he is at Daddy's computer punching those keys - he loves it!

Toes To The Nose

Or mouth that is. I know, every infant finds their toes & it really isn't that big of a deal - unless it's your baby! I just think it is so adorable - I had to document it.

Below Dec is supposed to be helping me put away laundry, but he keeps messing around with those toes! We'll have to work on the concept of chores later.
