Well, this is the final blog for 2009. I think this is the first time in my life that I am actually sad a year is over. Don't get me wrong, I am definitely looking forward to 2010! But, 2009 was a great year, full of wonderful surprises (i.e., Declan), life changes and good memories! I wonder what is in store for 2010?

Onto our final 2009 blog-

Yesterday we went over to Micah's house to check out his new Christmas toys. Oh what fun! I think you will see why I named this blog "Toyland". Pure boy chaos!
The boys play so well together - it is adorable! I have some new gift ideas for Declan's first birthday! I think our favorite (& a toy I would never have thought of) was Micah's kitchen. This wasn't an ordinary Play School Kitchen - this thing talks and identifies fruit. It is amazing! Here they are playing with it -
Micah liked touching Declan's hair - which is funny because Dec likes touching his own hair!

And after "toyland," Jaimie and I took the boys on a run, grabbed lunch, and headed off to Fannel Park in Mission Beach. The park visit was short because of looming rain, but a lot of fun. Here are the boys on the swings -
And on the slide
Thanks Jaimie & Micah for a fun day!

One Year Ago Today - Video

One year ago today, at 27 weeks (almost 28 weeks) pregnant, we saw the first glimpse of our little Declan through a 4D ultrasound. I was more excited for this than I was for Christmas last year. I couldn't wait to see our little guy! I have watched the ultrasound a few times since he was born and every time it makes me cry.

When I think back to my mentality a year ago, I was so innocent of the joy Declan would soon bring to our lives. I was focused on preparations and the million things I had to do on my checklist. When I think back to who I was just a mere year ago, and who I am now...the word that comes to mind is comical! I was so in control of my life, and now I am not - and it is SO MUCH MORE FUN this way!

Our First Family Photo - see "Baby Herkert" in the background? (We didn't have a name solidified back then).

A photo of Declan. I love this one because it looks like he is smiling. The technician said his face is pushed against my placenta. It is kind of like pushing your face up against a glass window - it kind of smashes it. It's like he is saying - "Hey Mom! Look how happy I am already!!"

And here is a short video of the 4D ultrasound. I tried every website I could think of to actually upload the video, but nothing took. So, I played it on my computer and videoed it from there. A little chinsy, but I was desperate! The first shot is a regular ultrasound - his head is on the right side of the screen. Then it moves to the 4D ultrasound - his head is in the uppler right corner of the screen and he is curled in a ball. His feet are near his face. I love the yawn near the end!

Declan's First Christmas - Video

On Wednesday afternoon we headed North to spend Declan's first Christmas & Christmas Eve at the beach in Oxnard with my dad, Carie, uncle Jeff, GG Char & Bill. The 2 1/2 days were filled with food, family, Wii, and relaxation (oh, and of course presents)! It was a very special first Christmas for Declan.

Christmas morning
Present opening pretty much lasted all day. As you will see in the video below, we are not at the tearing-open-gift-stage yet. It is a slow process...and of course we had to play with the toys too! No wonder Christmas morning lasted all day! Here's a little glimpse of Dec's present opening skills:

And I have to include this video too. It is of Dec playing with the gift he just opened. I swear I can see the wheels turning in his head.

Dec received many wonderful presents. In fact, when we returned home, the first thing Adam and I did was put some of his old toys in storage to make room for the new ones. But, the big hit of the day was the shiny red fire engine! Below are a few pictures:

"Wow, what is this?"

"Look at me go!"
And here is a cute picture of his Christmas Eve toy-
Last minute preparations in the kitchen with Bill & Char -
The table looked beautiful! Carie made the most delicious dinner of prime rib, green beans, and potatoes (the best potatoes I have ever had). It was topped off with a decadent chocolate and raspberry cake made by Char that looked like it came straight out of a magazine! Mmmm - my mouth is watering just thinking of the scrumptious food!
Uncle Jeff was awesome on Christmas. By dinner time Dec was a bit cranky (probably a little over-stimulated from all of the present opening). Jeff baby-sat so that mom could partake in the yummy food. Thanks Jeff!
Dec playing with Poppy

Daddy & Dec playing Wii Fit - I think Dec was pretty much kaput by this point.
And since I have already posted so many pictures (I think this is my longest blog yet), I'm going to go ahead and post one more. This picture is from the day after Christmas. We just arrived home, and Adam & I are unloading the car. Dec is well rested from a long nap and happy as can be crawling around. What a cutie! Ah, my little Palooka! I just want to eat him up! I'm so sad Dec's first Christmas is over. At least it was a great one! Thanks Dad & Carie!

Christmas Eve-Video

Like every child on Christmas Eve, Dec was dying to open just one present! Just kidding - he's a little young yet. BUT, mommy couldn't wait to tear into the loot! Dec benefited from mom's excitement and was given one of his Christmas presents.

"What is it?"
Dec waiting patiently while dad put it together.
Dec, you have a bow on your head!

"Grandpa, what is this thing?"
We bought Dec a little car he can sit on that also turns into a toy he can push. His very first push-toy! Let's see how he does:

Wow! That was his very first try! The kidlet just loves being on his feet. He also likes riding it as a car - although he can only make it go backward, not forward yet. Overall, the toy was a hit!

Some other cute pics from Christmas Eve:

One of his new favorite things - pulling himself up onto coffee tables, and laying his head down-

Poppy & DeeDee bought Dec a shiny red fire engine for Christmas. Adam worked hard Christmas Eve putting it together.
This is the Christmas tree and all the presents on Christmas Eve. What a precious sight!
